India Hicks, goddaughter to King Charles III and former royal bridesmaid, has quietly removed a podcast clip from her website after it sparked backlash for mocking Meghan Markle.
The video featured Hollywood star Brooke Shields joking about Meghan’s well-known “dish soap letter” story during an International Women’s Day panel in Austin, Texas, back in March 2024.
Meghan, 43, had been recounting how she wrote to Procter & Gamble at age 11 to protest a sexist advertisement, which eventually led to a change in the company's messaging.
But Shields, 60, interrupted the story on stage, saying: “Excuse me, I’ve got to interrupt. When I was 11, I was playing a prostitute.”
Shields later told Hicks during the podcast that Meghan’s story felt “too precious,” and she feared the audience would be bored by its seriousness.
The clip, originally shared on Hicks’ website, has since been deleted following online backlash accusing Shields of being “hostile” and “jealous” of the Duchess of Sussex.
