Sean “Diddy” Combs just saw the completion of the 9th day of his sex trafficking trial, which is currently in its second week.
Rapper Kid Cudi, whose birth name is Scott Mescudi, came to court and was called to the stand to testify against Diddy, having briefly dated Casandra “Cassie” Ventura in the past.
Cassie had been in a relationship with Diddy for 11 years, and is the prosecution’s key witness, having taken the stand four four days in a row last week.
She revealed during her testimony that Diddy had threatened her after finding out about her relationship with Cudi and had also threatened to blow up the other rapper’s car.
Cudi was the third well known figure from the music industry to take the stand in the trial, coming after Cassie, who is a singer, as well as her former Danity Kane bandmate, Dawn Richards.
Diddy is facing charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution, all of which he has pleaded not guilty to.
Some key events:
The rapper was asked about an incident by the prosecution where Diddy allegedly broke into his home after finding out about his and Cassie’s relationship.
Cudi claimed that his dog had been locked in the bathroom during the incident.
He had spent that Christmas in Connecticut in 2011 with Cassie’s family, during which Diddy had tried to contact him several times.
"Post-break-in, I didn’t want to talk to him," explained Cudi. "I told him, 'You broke into my house and messed with my dog, I don’t want to talk to you.'"
His Porsche was blown up in January 2012, and a Molotov cocktail had been found inside.
"What the f***?,” he recalled thinking in his testimony.
He explained that he had received a call from his dog-sitter that his car had exploded.
"She told me my car was on fire," the rapper added. "I immediately went to my house."
Cudi explained that eventually he agreed to meet with Diddy at his Soho House in Los Angeles, and when he walked in Diddy stood "with his hands behind his back like a Marvel supervillain."
Makeup artist Angela Morales was then called to the stand, where she testified about an incident that took place in 2010 where Diddy had allegedly stormed into a suite looking for Cassie.
He shouted, “Where the f*** is she?," said the artist.
Morales then admitted to hearing “yelling and screaming” from the bedroom, with Cassie later emerging looking “distraught,” with visible bruises.
The trial is expected to continue from Tuesday, May 27, following the Memorial Day holidays.
The Prosecution said that they were planning to call another one of Diddy’s former assistants, Capricorn Clark to the stand as well as members of the LAPD and LAFD.
Judge Arun Subramanian announced that he and the jury were expecting the trial to come to an end by the 4th of July. He told the attorneys on both sides to inform him if they feel that timeline won’t work so he could tell the jurors also.
