American Idol announced the winner of its 23rd Season live on May 18, after a performance from Jessica Simpson.
The final contestants came down to John Foster, Breanna Nix and Jamal Roberts.
At the end of the night, it was announced by Ryan Seacrest that Jamal Roberts was the official winner of the season.
Hailing from Meridian, Mississippi, he took the top spot, with Foster taking second place and Nix the third.
Seacrest revealed that the show had received approximately 27 million votes, which was the highest in the show’s long history.
Slater Nalley did not end up making it to the top three, however he and the rest of the Top 14 did return to give a performance.
Nalley also teamed up with Judge Carrie Underwood for a performance of I’m Gonna Love You before Cody Johnson took him by surprise and joined in.
American Idol will return with its next season in 2026.
