The trailer has dropped for the highly anticipated finale, The Conjuring: Last Rites, starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga.
Although there has been a lot of excitement for the new installment in the series, the trailer proved to be underwhelming for some viewers.
“Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one last terrifying case involving mysterious entities they must confront,” reads the synopsis.
One fan criticized the horror effects in the trailer, writing, “They really thought this would scare us? Even Indian soap operas have better creepy scenes. Sad to watch one of the greatest horror franchises crumble like this. Total disappointment—and James Wan, this one’s on you!”
Others claimed that they were disappointed by the last few installments, expressing hope for the new one, “The key misstep with The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It was that James Wan didn't return to direct, and I have the same concern about The Conjuring: Last Rites. I hope they went all out to make this one terrifying, special and emotional. I'm hopeful! All I can say for now!”
Many fans admitted to being excited by the trailer with comments like, “The Conjuring Last Rites is lowkey going to be my Marvel Endgame fr,” and, “going on lunch at work and finding out a new pope was elected, the conjuring last rites trailer dropped and lorde tour dates dropped all at the same time.”
The Conjuring: Last Rites is set to release in theaters as well as IMAX on September 5 from Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line.
