The Met Gala returns with a bold new theme, star-studded hosts, and fashion’s biggest names on the red carpet
We’re in May, which means the Met Gala, the annual congregation of all that’s hot in fashion, is upon us.
Arguably fashion’s biggest night, the event is set to take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, 5 May, and we’ve rounded up all that you need to know before the big day.
What is the Met Gala theme for 2025?
The Met Gala theme almost always emerges as the night’s biggest point of contention, and this year is expected to be no different.
Many confuse the theme and dress code of the event, but before we dive in, it is pertinent to note that the theme of the Met Gala refers to the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition at the Met Museum each year, while a corresponding dress code is assigned for those attending the exhibition.
According to Vogue, Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity serves as the inspiration this year, with the exhibition featuring clothes, paintings, photographs, etc. from artists including Tanda Francis, Torkwase Dyson, and Tyler Mitchell.
Keeping in line with the theme of the exhibition, i.e. well-tailored menswear, the 2025 Met Gala dress code is ‘Tailored for You’.
Who will host the Met Gala 2025?
This year, alongside a special roster of co-chairs for the coveted event, the Met Gala 2025 will also have some notable names serving on its host committee.
Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour will serve as the chair, alongside Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, and A$AP Rocky. Meanwhile, sporting legend LeBron James will serve as the honorary chair.
On the hosting committee are Ayo Edebiri, Doechii, Andre 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Edward Enninful, Janelle Monáe, Tyla, and Usher among others.
Who’s attending this year?
With a star-studded line-up on the co-chair and hosting end, it is safe to say that the Met Gala 2025 red carpet will be a glittery affair.
This year is expected to be especially exciting as fans expect singer Rihanna to attend alongside her partner and co-chair Rocky; she skipped the event last year.
The Kardashian-Jenner clan is also a staple at the Met Gala red carpet year after year, and as per rumours, Kim Kardashian may already have a look in mind.
Meanwhile, it remains unconfirmed whether last year’s co-chairs, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth will be seen at the Gala this year.
However, it has been confirmed that another Met Gala (and Anna Wintour) favourite, Blake Lively, will not attend, and neither will her husband Ryan Reynolds.
