A Minecraft Movie, after its release on April 4, 2025, has continued to prosper by retaining its first place on the second Friday of launch.
So far the film, starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, collected $20.5 million according to The Numbers and is expected to further make $80 million this weekend.
The live-action has been named the year’s highest-grossing motion picture at the domestic box office, as dished by Variety.
The 2025 movie set a record for top-grossing first weekend for a video game adaptation, dethroning The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
In the second spot lies The Kings of Kings, an animated film based on the life of Jesus, with the collection of over $7 million in sales.
The biblical animated film was followed by The Amateur in third position with a total profit of $6 million. The thriller features Academy-Award winner Rami Malek, who plays a CIA decoder.
A Minecraft Movie’s plot revolves around the adventures of a group of oddballs who find themselves in the middle of a pixelated universe.
The fantasy comedy has its origin in the popular "Minecraft" video game that features Jack Black as Steve and Jason Momoa as Garrett Garrison.
