Tay-K suffers a major setback after his ex-girlfriend took the stand in his ongoing capital murder trial.
The rapper is accused of the murder of 23-year-old Mark Anthony Saldivar, who was killed in the 2017 robbery incident in San Antonio, Texas.
The prosecutors allege that the 24-year-old fatally shot Saldivar while attempting to steal his photography equipment.
On Monday, Tay’s former girlfriend Joanna Reyes appeared as a key prosecution witness to give an emotional testimony.
Reyes revealed that she was dating the rapper at the time and helped him lure Saldivar after reaching out to the photographer on Instagram.
The ex-girlfriend said she was not aware that Tay intended to rob Saldivar, as she was under the impression that he was having a photoshoot.
According to Reyes’ testimony, Tay, along with his two affiliates, picked up Saldivar in an SUV driven by her.
After driving for some time, Tay pulled out a gun and tried to rob Saldivar, leading to a scuffle inside the vehicle.
Reyes detailed that Tay attempted to throw Saldivar out of the vehicle but the photographer held on.
“He opened the door and leaned out on one leg. He shot him,” a tearful Reyes said.
Reyes also claimed that she remained quiet about the incident because Tay threatened her family. However, she has now accepted a plea deal and faces 10 years of probation for tampering with evidence.
The testimony could have dire consequences for Tay, who is already serving a 55-year sentence for a separate murder case.
In 2019, Tay was found guilty of taking the life of Ethan Walker in a 2016 home invasion in Mansfield, Texas.
