Paul Rudd is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Ant-Man in the highly anticipated film, Avengers: Doomsday — and he’s not holding back when it comes to throwing some cheeky jabs.

Shortly after Marvel Studios revealed the cast lineup for the upcoming blockbuster, Rudd appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he spoke about his return and cracked a joke aimed at former US President Donald Trump over a recent scandal involving military secrets.

During the interview, Fallon asked Rudd about his introduction during the Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal, where he was seated in a tiny director’s chair while other cast members sat in regular-sized chairs.

“I thought that was clever. 'Yes, I’m Ant-Man.' But there’s still that part of me that feels a little emasculated to have a tiny chair. But at least finally one that will fit me when I sit down," Rudd joked, prompting laughter from the audience.

When Fallon shifted the conversation to ask what Rudd could reveal about Avengers: Doomsday, the actor played along with Marvel’s notorious secrecy.

“There is nothing that I can tell you,” Rudd said. “They are very secretive. It’s important. Clearly, as we know, they never announce anything. This is a major movie. You cannot be frivolous with this kind of stuff. It's nothing like military secrets or anything. This is a major motion picture.”

Fallon, picking up on the joke, added: “This is not something you put in a group chat.”

Rudd didn’t miss a beat, quipping back: “Yeah, this is not like a coordinated attack somewhere.”

What was Paul Rudd referencing?

Rudd’s sharp wit was referencing Signalgate, a recent scandal in the US where a journalist from The Atlantic was mistakenly added to a Signal group chat where confidential US military attack plans for Yemen were being discussed.

The leak led to widespread criticism, with the Trump administration later downplaying the incident, claiming the information shared wasn’t “confidential.” The Atlantic then published the text exchanges, exposing the embarrassing misstep.
