Coco will once again be returning to the big screen with a new sequel being announced for the film by Disney and Pixar.

The announcement was made by the CEO of Disney, Bob Iger during their annual shareholder meeting. Although details have not yet been released, it is set for a theatrical release in 2029.

“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure,” said Iger. “And we can’t wait to share more soon.”

The original flick’s director, Lee Unkrich will be returning for the sequel along with Adrian Molina. Pixar veteran Mark Nielsen, known for hits such as Toy Story 4 as well as Inside Out 2 will be producing.

The synopsis for Coco reads, “Despite his family's generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. After meeting a charming trickster named Héctor, the two new friends embark on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history.”

It grossed over $800 million at the global box office, going on to win two Oscars.

It won the Academy Awards for best animated feature and original song for Remember Me.
