Beloved singer and songwriter from Hong Kong, Khalil Fong has tragically passed away at the age of 41 after battling a prolonged illness.

His agency, Fu Music announced the news stating that he "left the world peacefully" on February 21 after having struggled with his illness for 5 years.

The singer had shared a post to his Instagram only a week before his passing where he sent Lunar New Year greetings to his fans. He had also been promoting his song Oasis which is a part of his album, The Dreamer, that was released the previous year.

He described the project as being very personal as it was created “during various stages of illness.”

Fong was born in 1983 in Hawaii, growing up in a diverse environment being exposed to soul, funk, and jazz music. His family went on to relocate to Guangdong and Shanghai before finally settling down in Hong Kong.

He began to rise in popularity in the Chinese music landscape after he released his debut album Soulboy in 2005, which included the hit track, Spring Breeze. He went on to be compared to artists like David Tao and Jay Chou due to the blend of soul and R&B.
