Keanu Reeves is one of the most adored action actors of all time, mostly due to his standout performance as the titular antihero in the John Wick films. The initial John Wick script intended for a 75-year-old man to play the lead, as the film's team recalled in the 2022 book "They Shouldn't Have Killed His Dog," but Reeves and his agency were desperate to find him a new action movie and connected with the plot.
"[Franchise producer Basil Iwanyk] brought the script to me with the idea that I would be a part of such a great collaboration," Reeves said in the book, as per Entertainment Weekly. "We all agreed on the potential of the project. It has this character of John Wick, but then you also have the real world, and at the same time this kind of underworld. This den of thieves that have this honor and a code. It has this emotional connection with John Wick, who's grieving, who's lost the love of his life and has this mythical dark past. And I loved the quest that he goes on to reclaim his life. And the world he moves through to do it."
Before filming started, Reeves and screenwriter Derek Kolstad spent two months rewriting the storyline for the first John Wick movie. Reeves' career was revived by the success of the 2014 film, which has spawned three sequels thus far. A fifth episode is also planned, and a spinoff called Ballerina, which will feature Ana de Armas, will debut later.
John Wick: Chapter 1 (2014)
Reeves played the eponymous retired hitman in the first John Wick film. With the aid of a dog that his wife gave him, he is grieving the loss of his wife.
Yet after the dog is killed by Russian gangsters, John returns to the assassination game. Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Dean Winters, Lance Reddick, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe are among the cast members. Throughout the entire series, Bridget Moynahan portrays his ex-wife in flashback scenes.
John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017)
Three years after the first movie, John Wick: Chapter 2 was released. In the movie, Riccardo Scamarcio's character, an Italian mafia lord, accuses John of owing him a favour and coerces him into carrying out an assassination.
In addition to Laurence Fishburne, Common, Ruby Rose, and Peter Serafinowicz joining the ensemble, Reddick, Leguizamo, and McShane all make a comeback.
John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum (2019)
Parabellum, the title of the third John Wick movie, finds John dealing with the fallout from his last movie's acts.
With the addition of Halle Berry, Asia Kate Dillon, and Anjelica Huston, Fishburne, Reddick, and McShane make a second appearance.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
John Wick chapter 4 release date is set to be on March 24. John might use it to overthrow the High Table and secure his permanent independence. Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgrd, and Rina Sawayama are new cast members. Fishburne makes his third appearance, while Reddick makes his fourth.
The potential hit movie of the John Wick franchise used a budget of approximately $90M dollar and John Wick 4 will be considered a theatrical hit if it crosses $110M dollar at the box office.

Will there be John Wick: Chapter 5?
The responsibility for the continuity of the John Wick universe depends largely on viewers. It was announced in August 2020 that Chad Stahelski would serve as the director of Keanu Reeves' unstoppable assassin's fourth and fifth blockbuster movies.
The director ultimately changed his mind about this strategy because he was concerned that the intense pressure of a simultaneous production might degrade the quality of either one or both of the films. Reeves sat down with Total Film to talk about the potential continuation of the popular action franchise, which depends on whether or not viewers want more now that Chapter 4 is just over two months away from its theatrical debut.
"You have to see how the audience responds to what we did," Reeves said when queried about the chances of John Wick 5 getting made.
"The only reason we’ve had a chance to make these movies is that people have liked what we have done. So I think we have to wait and see how the audience responds to it. Hopefully they’ll like it."
"You might have to give me and John Wick just a little break," added Stahelski, whose next project (a sequel to Without Remorse) will see him join forces with Black Panther and Creed star, Michael B. Jordan. "Ask me in a couple of months. In the next week, I’m praying to the movie gods that I finish this one."
Even though a fifth installment of John Wick isn't planned, fans still have a lot to look forward to, including the John Wick spinoff film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas and Norman Reedus. Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the underworld series, is in charge of this one.
"It’s a cool story," Reeves hinted. "Len Wiseman has a vision, but is also embracing, affectionately, the world of John Wick. Ian McShane is in it as Winston. So I felt that there was a cool handoff of stewardship, and it was fun to put the suit on again, however briefly. There’s a reason for [John] to be in Ballerina; it’s very organic. And working with Ana was great. She really loves action, and she’s really good at it."
