Prince Harry discloses he used cheap clothing for casual wear while residing in UK

In Spare, Prince Harry admits that during his single years, finding a good deal gave him a rush.

The 38-year-old Duke of Sussex made the startling disclosure in his expansive book, which was published on Tuesday. In the poem, Harry combines memories of significant events with snippets from his daily life, which used to involve trips to TK Maxx for clothing when he lived in the U.K.

Harry added that he liked coming in to shop during special promotions because TK Maxx and its American version, TJ Maxx, are known for their steep discounts on clothing, household goods, gifts, and more.

In Spare, Harry revealed that his father, King Charles, gave him an annual wardrobe stipend, although it was only intended for ceremonial attire.

"For my everyday casual clothes, I'd go to TK Maxx, the discount store. I was particularly fond of their once-a-year sale, when they'd be flush with items from Gap or J.Crew, items that had just gone out of season or were slightly damaged," he wrote.

"If I found something promising I'd hold it up to my chest or legs, standing in front of a mirror. I never dawdled over color or style and certainly never went anywhere near a changing room," Harry noted.

"If it looked nice, comfortable, into the bucket it went. If I was on the fence about it, I'd ask [bodyguard] Billy the Rock. He delighted in moonlighting as my stylist."
