Lauren Jauregui has addressed her past relationship with Ty Dolla $ign, hinting that her latest release is written about him.
The Fifth Harmony alum released a new song titled Always Love on Friday, October 28, and revealed that she wrote it shortly after their split.
“I was feeling the feelings of complexity that are getting out of a relationship that you still want to be in and wish could work, but just wasn’t working for you anymore,” she told People. “I, still to this day, have a lot of love and respect for him and what we had together.”
The Worth It singer shared that she sent the lyrics of the song to the rapper, to make sure the message was communicated clearly.
“We’re both artists, and we both express ourselves through our music really deeply,” Lauren explained. “But that was then. Now, it’s just art.”
Jauregui noted that despite the song being written nearly three years ago, she still relates to it.
“The songs that I write capture a moment when I’m in it,” Lauren said.
“But for me, if the song can transcend the moment and still communicate to me and other people three years after it was written, and after I’m completely healed and not in that space anymore, I think that’s a testament to it needing to go out into the world.”
Lauren and Ty were first linked in 2016 but their relationship status at that time was not confirmed.
They started publicly hanging out in 2017, validating the rumors, before calling it off in 2019.
