Meryl Streep may have ruled the runway on screen, but in real life, she’s giving fashion’s biggest night a firm pass.
The 76-year-old Hollywood icon has revealed she’s never attended the Met Gala, despite being invited time and time again.
While stars battle for a coveted spot at the glitzy bash, Meryl has quietly stayed away, insisting the high-fashion spectacle has “never quite been her scene”.
It’s a surprising move from the woman who famously portrayed icy editor Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, a character widely believed to be inspired by Anna Wintour herself.
But Mamma Mia! actress has always drawn a clear line between fiction and reality, saying she wanted to create her own version rather than imitate the fashion powerhouse.
A spokesperson confirmed the star holds nothing but admiration for Wintour and the world of Vogue, praising the editor’s “imagination and stamina”.
Still, the flashing cameras and over-the-top glamour just don’t appeal.
In fact, she has even applauded Wintour’s reserved nature, calling her refreshingly private in today’s oversharing culture.
Beyond the fashion snub, the Oscar-winning actress has also opened up about her early fears of ageing in Hollywood, admitting she once believed her career would fizzle out by 40.
