Helen Mirren joins Hollywood legends with huge festival honour

Helen Mirren is set to receive yet another glittering honour after being named the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient at the Taormina Film Festival.

The Hollywood icon, who turned 80 this year, will be celebrated during the prestigious event in Sicily from June 10 to June 14.

Organisers are planning a special evening dedicated to legendary Italian screen star Anna Magnani.

Festival artistic director Tiziana Rocca hailed Dame Helen as the “perfect embodiment” of the festival’s spirit, praising her elegance, talent and remarkable career. 

She also described the tribute to Mirren and Magnani as a meeting of “two cinema icons” capable of deeply moving audiences across generations.

The honour places MobLand actress alongside a dazzling list of past recipients including Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone and Helen Hunt.

Despite decades at the top, the Oscar-winning actress has never pretended her journey was flawless. 

In a candid interview last year, she admitted her life had been filled with “mistakes and missteps”.

The Queen actress revealed that she had accepted the wrong projects, rejected the right ones and made choices she later regretted.

Still, she insists luck and timing played a huge role in her success. 

After joining the Royal Shakespeare Company at just 21, it would still take years before she cracked Hollywood.
