Diego Luna has sent Disney fans into a frenzy after joining the cast of the upcoming live-action Tangled remake.
The 46-year-old actor, best known for playing Cassian Andor in the Star Wars spin-off series Andor, is continuing his strong relationship with Disney and Lucasfilm.
His role in the fairy-tale project has been kept tightly under wraps, with studio bosses refusing to reveal any details about the character he will play.
It was previously revealed that Teagan Croft will star as Rapunzel, while Milo Manheim takes on the role of Flynn Rider, the charming outlaw who helps her escape the tower.
Kathryn Hahn is also reportedly in talks to play Mother Gothel, the villainous figure who keeps Rapunzel locked away in order to preserve her own youth.
Scarlett Johansson was once attached to the role but is said to have exited due to scheduling clashes with major film commitments.
Directed by Michael Gracey, known for The Greatest Showman, the new Tangled film is expected to feature big musical numbers and large-scale set pieces, staying true to the spirit of the original 2010 animated hit.
Producer Kristin Burr is also involved, alongside writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who is penning the screenplay.
Luna, who has two children with ex-wife Camila Sodi, is best known for his work in Star Wars: Rogue One and Andor, and previously joked that his children briefly thought he was “the coolest dad in the galaxy” before his on-screen death spoiled the moment.
He has also spoken about his love of filming space sequences, describing the experience as as close as possible to real flying.
