Michael Jackson’s story is set for a dramatic big-screen continuation.

The studio bosses confirmed a sequel to the upcoming biopic Michael is now “very likely” to start filming this year or next, according to Lionsgate chief Adam Fogelson.

The first film, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson as his famous uncle Michael Jackson.

Notably, it follows the pop icon from his childhood days with the Jackson 5 through to global superstardom with landmark albums such as Thriller and Bad

The movie currently ends at the height of his 1980s fame, rather than exploring his later life.

However, the production has already faced turbulence behind the scenes, with legal complications forcing expensive reshoots and a rewritten ending after restrictions around portraying certain real-life allegations linked to the singer.

Speaking on The Town with Matt Belloni podcast, Fogelson said the sequel is firmly on the table and moving closer to reality.

He revealed that director Antoine will be sitting down with studio executives in the coming weeks to map out a full creative vision and decide how the next chapter of the story should unfold.

While no final decisions have been made, he hinted there are “any number of ways” to continue exploring Jackson’s life and legacy.

Fogelson admitted the process will not be simple, but insisted there is still a huge amount of material left to draw from.

He pointed to major cultural milestones, including record-breaking albums and unforgettable performances such as the Super Bowl halftime show, as potential moments for the sequel to explore.

For now, fans are left waiting to see how Hollywood plans to tackle the next stage of one of music’s most iconic and controversial lives, as anticipation builds for what could become one of the decade’s biggest biopic franchises.
