Meryl Streep and The Devil Wears Prada 2 director David Frankel shared details of how they got Lady Gaga in their highly anticipated project.
Streep is reprising her role as Miranda Priestly, Editor-in-Chief of the Runway magazine.
In an appearance on HeartBreakfast, Streep revealed that she personally called the Bloody Marry singer for the task.
"That was me. Thank you. You're welcome," she said. "I called her from Islington because I was out to dinner with Tracy. And I thought, I might as well try her."
Going into the details, the Mamma Mia! star added, “"I just said, 'Would you do this? Because it's going to be really good. And she said, 'Yeah!' "
Snapping her fingers, the Oscar winner continued, “Just like that. She's on her world tour, which lasted a year, playing to 75,000 people in a stadium and just flew off and did us."
The director confirmed Gaga’s role saying she will be playing a pop star during an interview with Back Row. "We wrote a pop star into the sequence.”
He said, "They're doing this whole show in Milan, and there was this one line in the script where a pop star does a performance."
The Devil Wears Prada 2 follow the Miranda Priestly struggling with decline of traditional magazine publishing as she navigates the changing fashion media industry.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for release on May 1.
