Macaulay Culkin made a small but one of the most talked cameo in his fiancée Brenda Song’s show, Running Point.
Previously in season one, he appeared as a disgruntled fan at a Los Angeles Waves basketball game.
In the new season he shows up in a flashback scene tied to the backstory of Song’s character (Ally) and Kate Hudson’s Isla.
The scene references Culkin’s famous movie My Girl, adding a mix of nostalgia for the viewers.
In the movie, the Home Alone star’s character Thomas J. Spoiler, dies at the end after he is stung by bees, which he is allergic to.
The film's most memorable scene is a tear-jerker, where Anna Chlumsky as Vada sobs uncontrollably over Thomas J.'s body in an open casket, about him not being able to see without his glasses.
In the show, Ally and Isla curl up in bed together, crumpling tissues and sniffling over the tragic moment.
Song told Variety that the cameo almost didn’t happen because Culkin took time to approve it.
At the same time, she admitted that he is very enthusiastic about her show and pitches more ideas for his appearances in it.
“He just signed off on it two days ago," she said. "I'm like, 'Babe, the show's premiering next week. Sign off on it.'"
Song quipped, “He pitches himself every season. I love him, but I'm like, 'Honey, this is my job. Let me live.'"
The series follows Isla, a woman unexpectedly put in charge of her family’s professional football team, forcing her to prove himself in a male dominated sports world.
With help of her inner circle, including Ally, navigates power struggles, personal drama and high stakes of professional sports world.
The Running Point is now streaming on Netflix.
