The Devil Wears Prada 2 designer Molly Rogers, broke silence on the controversial footwear choice in the film.

When the trailers for the highly anticipated film started to release, one of the clips featured a powerful shot of the Runway editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) bold red and gold stud-embellished shoes, which then pans up to her entire ensemble.

The shoes caused debate among fans on internet, who preferred their beloved character in a sleek pair of high heels.

In an episode of Vogue's The Run-Through podcast, Rogers, discussing the pair of heels said that she "innocent" in making the polarizing decision.

The scene was never meant to pan out this way, according to costume designer.

"I'm gonna give you the real story. Okay?" Rogers began. "I had gone forward to Milan, where we were gonna shoot some scenes. I was not there that day when they were shooting another scene, and they just popped the shoes on Meryl. I had chosen another shoe."

She admitted that she was frustrated by the change, noting that the decision clashed with her careful approach to character styling.

Roger emphasised that Miranda’s wardrobe is always curated with precision and intention, reflecting the character’s authority and understated luxury.

The designer also suggested that the controversial shoes may have been chosen for promotional impact, as the recognisable rockstud style helped generate the buzz around the sequel.

“I took great offense to because I knew that a marketing person didn't know anything about a Rockstud, and I did not think it was appropriate for Miranda to wear a Rockstud.”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is slated for release on May 1.
