Hokum, Obsession, Passenger: May's 6 horror onslaught

The success of horror movies in 2025 shows that there's always room in the cinema for new nightmares. 

Whether it was folk, body or some of the classics of the horror genre, the scares presented in 2025 felt like real ones that would stay with the viewer for long after their screening. 

To keep it going, 2026 is full of horror adventures as well. 

In May, fans are anticipating multiple scares with a series of six new horror films hitting the screen each with its own twist on dread. 

This month we will be treated with everything from supernatural terrors to a nightmare born on the internet. 

If it's psychological terrors you are after, home invasion slasher fests, reality bending shockers or just something truly scary to keep you awake.

Hokum - May 1 

Adam Scott stars in this Damian McCarthy directed and written film. This is the story of author Ohm Bauman who flees to a remote inn to spread his parents' ashes.

But he's plagued by stories of a witch in the honeymoon suite. Haunting visions and a mysterious disappearance compels him to deal with his own demons.

Obsession - May 15 

The movie headline Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.

After Michael destroyed that mysterious "One Wish Willow" to get the love of his life, he succeeded in winning her over, but there was a dark and sinister hole where he would've been better off leaving alone.

Passenger - May 22 

Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell and Melissa Leo are the main cast of the horror flick, and directed by André Øvredal.

This follows a demonic stalker who’s impossible to outrun and follows a couple wherever they go.

Corporate Retreat - May 22 

A "bloody white-knuckle ride that redefines the modern horror" genre directed by Tony Toscano.

This film combines elements of a terrifying survival horror movie with comedy and crazy, shocking moments. 

Alan Ruck, Odeya Rush, Ashton Sanders, Rosanna Arquette, Sasha Lane, Kirby Johnson, Zion Moreno, Tyler Alvarez and Benjamin Norris are the cast of the chiller.

Backrooms - May 29 

Directed by Kane Parsons, about people lost in a disturbing maze of yellow rooms. Cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell.

Speed Demon - May 31 

The demonic film stars William H. Macy and Katie Cassidy into a train filled with exorcist chaos.
