Jennie Garth is opening up about her past decision to undergo plastic surgery at the age of 24, admitting she was influenced by unrealistic beauty standards and industry pressures.

In her memoir I Choose Me: Chasing Joy, Finding Purpose, and Embracing Reinvention, Garth reflects on how her time playing Kelly Taylor on Beverly Hills, 90210 shaped her perception of herself.

She revealed that before joining the show, she had never struggled with body image issues, but the character’s insecurities and the show’s focus on appearance gradually blurred the line between fiction and reality.

As the pressures of Hollywood intensified, Garth said she began comparing herself to co-stars and internalizing criticism about her looks.

Despite describing her body as “healthy” and “normal,” she felt compelled to conform to the era’s “heroin chic” ideal.

According to People, at 24, shortly after becoming a mother, she underwent breast augmentation and liposuction, believing it would boost her confidence and help her feel accepted.

However, she now acknowledges that the decision was driven by a desire to fit into a narrow standard of beauty rather than personal need.

Garth clarified that no one directly pressured her into surgery, but the subtle changes in how she was perceived afterward made the experience feel “addictive.”

Looking back, she recognizes the emotional toll of chasing validation through appearance.
