John Mulaney and Andy Samberg are offering rare insight into their close relationship with longtime Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels, portraying him as far more than just a boss.

In the new documentary Lorne, directed by Morgan Neville, several SNL alumni reflect on Michaels’ lasting influence on their lives and careers.

Mulaney, who previously worked as a writer on the show, revealed that Michaels played a crucial role during one of the most difficult periods of his life — his 2020 battle with addiction.

According to People, he recalled receiving deeply personal calls from Michaels, who emphasized the importance of recovery by sharing stories from the show’s past.

Meanwhile, Samberg described Michaels as a parental figure, highlighting the emotional support and guidance he has consistently offered beyond the workplace.

Moreover, the actor-comedian credited him with shaping not only his career but also his personal growth.

The documentary paints Michaels as a mentor deeply invested in the well-being of his cast, often showing up during pivotal life moments, from personal struggles to major milestones.

As per the outlet, his behind-the-scenes gestures, including supporting cast members through pregnancies and life transitions, further reinforce his reputation as a compassionate leader.
