Freida McFadden, bestselling author of The Housemaid, has finally shared her real identity after more than 20 years of staying anonymous.

During her latest interaction, the writer shared that her real name is Sara Cohen.

“I'm at a point in my career when I'm tired of this being a secret,” she told USA Today. “I am a real person and I have a real identity and I don't have anything to hide.”

As per publisher, she has been balancing her writing career alongside her primary profession as a doctor specialising in brain disorders.

She also shared that adopting a pseudonym was initially a protective measure for her medical career.

“My whole goal was to keep it a secret… so it wouldn't… compromise my ability to do my job,” she explained. Over time, however, colleagues became aware of her authorship and respected her privacy.

Speculation around her identity grew online over the years, including claims that she was not a single individual.

Addressing such rumours, she said, “Some of it is great… one that's very funny is people saying that I'm three men.”

Despite the revelation, she will continue publishing under the name Freida McFadden, with adaptations of her work, including The Housemaid, already in development.
