James Gunn shortlists actresses for Maxima role in ‘Superman’ sequel

James Gunn, after casting Lars Eidinger as Brainiac and Aaron Pierre as Green Lantern, is now looking for more star power in his upcoming Superman sequel.

The Guardian's of the Galaxy director is looking to cast a potential actress for role of Maxima, an alien warrior-queen from planet Almerac.

She is known for immense power, royal arrogance, and obsessive romantic pursuit of Superman in the comics.

A source confirmed to Variety, that shortlisted actresses include, Adria Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler and Grace Van Patten.

The stars have tested for the part, with the deal now imminent, as shooting on the film starts late next week in Atlanta.

The highly anticipated film, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, is written by and directed by Gunn.

David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult return as the Man of Steel and Lex Luthor, respectively.

However, this time, the rivals are forced to work together to defeat an even bigger threat: the super-intelligent antagonist Brainiac.

Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Sara Sampaio (Eve Teschmacher), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), will also star in the film.

Superman: Man of Tomorrow is slated for release on July 9,2027.
