Supergirl director Craig Gillespie opened up the dynamics and family affairs of the iconic 'Super' family.
The upcoming highly anticipated Supergirl film, starring Milly Alcock, latest promo revealed a surprised cameo of David Corenswet’s Superman/ Kal-El/Clark Kent.
Kara Zor-El/Supergirl actress made her debut in the role of the Kryptonian cousin to the Man of Steel during an ending sequence for 2025's Superman.
In the new teaser, Superman appears during a transmission asking his cousin when she might come home to Earth, who usually spends most of her time blocking out the memories of her traumatic past.
The director in an interview with the Entertainment Weekly, talked about their relationship saying, "They have such different upbringings."
He explained that Superman was raised in a loving environment and naturally grew into his role, while Supergirl, having experienced trauma, is forced into the position later in life and must struggle to adapt it.
Kal-El, was sent to Earth as an infant, while Kara grew up on their home world of Krypton through her teens.
When the planet was destroyed, her parents, Zor-El (David Krumholtz) and Alura (Emily Beecham), sent her through space to join her cousin, while they stayed behind and died along with the planet.
"Even though they're cousins, you get this almost older-sibling dynamic and that can be adversarial at times," Gillespie says. "He's the gentle guy that wants to reach out and be patient, and she's having to find a way and find herself."
The upcoming adaptation is based on on Tom King’s 2022 comic book series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Bilquis Evely illustrated, meanwhile, Ana Nogueira is the screenwriter.
In the comic, Supergirl and young alien girl Knolle travel across the galaxy to hunt Krem of the Yellow Hill after he kills Knolle’s father in cold blood.
In addition to Alcock, it also includes, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze, and Jason Momoa as Lobo.
The film is set to release in theatres on June 26.
