Jaafar Jackson surprises family by hiding Michael Jackson role for a year
Jaafar Jackson is set to portray as his pop star uncle in new biopic ‘Michael’
Jaafar Jackson opened up about keeping a huge secret from his family and their reaction after learning about it.
The Got Me Singing hitmaker, is 29-year-old nephew of pop star, Michael Jackson, who died at 50 in 2009.
In an interview with co-star Miles Teller, for a conversation in Interview Magazine about the much awaited biopic, Michael, the Famous singer revealed that his mother was not aware of the role for an entire year.
"She came to set one time, but she wasn’t aware of what to expect," Jaafar said of his mother, Alejandra. "Even in the process of preparing for it, I didn’t tell her for a full year."
Miles, who has last time saw Jaafar, when Alejandra, saw Michael for the first time.
Surprised, he asked, “What do you mean? When you booked it, you didn’t tell her?"
Explaining the reason behind his secrecy, Jaafar added, "I kept it pretty quiet until I felt comfortable enough to share it."
Sharing his mother’s reaction, he continued saying that, she was “blown away” and had a hard time to “connect it to me, so it was very emotional for her."
Jaafar is also son of Jermaine Jackson, one of Michael's brothers and a member of The Jackson 5.
The upcoming biopic about his late uncle, helmed by Antonie Fuqua, will mark as his acting debut.
Aside from Miles and Jaafar, Michael also includes an all-star cast, Colman Domingo as Michael’s father and manager, Joe, Nia Long as Michael’s mother, Katherine, and Kat Graham as fellow Motown star Diana Ross.
Miles star as Jackson's lawyer and manager, John Branca.
Michael is slated for release on April 24.
