Colman Domingo is getting candid about his role in the highly anticipated, upcoming biopic about Michal Jackson’s life, Michael.
The playwright plays the father of the iconic singer, Joe Jackson and talked about how he prepared for the role and what he sought to bring into his portrayal of the character.
In an interview with Pop Base, the Disclosure Day actor was asked about how he added a layer of empathy to the character while maintaining intensity.
“When you examine a man like Joe Jackson you examine where he comes from, what kind of upbringing he had, what he had to give to his family, and I believe he gave everything to his family. So his family could exist in a very powerful and strong way,” Colman stated.
The Sing Sing actor added that whenever he takes on a character he strives to dive into their internal life and find out what is important to them.
“I thought it was a tremendous responsibility to give a complexity to a man that people think that they know...and so also a tremendous responsibility I have to his nephew, his grandson with me," Colman said.
Notably, the Rustin actor said that he wanted to know as much as possible about his humour, interactions and things that go beyond interviews and wikipedia.
