Florence Pugh to star in big-budget adaptation of 'The Midnight Library'

Florence Pugh is set to lead one of the hottest packages to emerge from the Cannes Film Festival.

Hollywood giant Paramount Pictures reportedly striking a blockbuster deal worth more than $30 million for The Midnight Library.

The fantasy drama, adapted from the bestselling novel by Matt Haig, will see the Oscar-nominated actress step into the role of Nora Seed.

Notably, a woman who finds herself in a surreal library between life and death, where every book unlocks a different version of the life she could have lived.

Directed by Garth Davis, known for Lion, the film is already being tipped as a visually rich, emotionally heavy story about regret, choice and second chances. 

Industry insiders have described it as a “love letter to life”, blending fantasy with deeply human storytelling.

The screenplay has been adapted by Laura Wade and Nick Payne, while Haig himself will serve as executive producer, ensuring the spirit of his beloved novel remains intact on screen.

Distribution rights have been split globally, with StudioCanal handling the UK, Europe and select international territories, while Paramount takes control of the rest of the world.

Production is expected to move into pre-production this autumn, with filming currently pencilled in for early 2027.

Davis has praised Pugh’s return to the project, saying her “warmth and talent are magical”.

He added that the team is aiming to create something truly special from Haig’s iconic story.

Haig himself has expressed excitement that Nora Seed’s many possible lives will now be “vividly reawakened” on the big screen.

With a huge studio backing, a beloved source novel and Florence Pugh at its centre, The Midnight Library is already shaping up to be one of Hollywood’s most anticipated fantasy releases.
