Emilia Clarke is looking back on her Game of Thrones journey, speaking candidly about awards disappointment and the life altering health struggles she endured during filming.
In an interview with Variety, the 39-year-old actress said, “I'm embarrassed to admit that not winning an Emmy was a really significant thing."
She also recalled her final Emmy appearance after the series wrapped, saying she thought, “Everyone's over ‘Game of Thrones' now — you're old news.”
Moreover, she opened up about the health challenges she faced during filming, including two brain hemorrhages.
“I was just convinced that I had cheated death and I was meant to die,” she mentioned. “Every day, that's all I could think about.”
Recalling her first collapse, she told, “The closest thing to describe it is imagine an elastic band just snapping around your brain,” adding,
“This insane pressure. In that moment, I knew I was being brain-damaged.”
It is pertinent to mention, she later suffered a second aneurysm in New York while performing on Broadway.
Clarke went on to launch SameYou in 2019 with her mother, Jennifer, to support brain injury recovery.
