Ed Sheeran has done it again, cementing his place as the undisputed soundtrack king of Britain after being named the UK’s most-played artist of 2025 for an incredible eighth time.

The 35-year-old superstar has seen off fierce competition from global heavyweights including Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Calvin Harris and Lady Gaga to top PPL’s annual list, which tracks the most played music across radio, TV and public venues.

According to the figures, Ed’s songs were played a jaw-dropping average of 574 times a day, roughly 24 times every single hour across the UK.

From morning radio shows to late-night pub playlists, his music is seemingly everywhere.

Clearly moved by the achievement, the Perfect singer said he was “so grateful” to continue holding the crown.

“I am so grateful to be named most-played artist across TV, radio and venues across the UK for an incredible eighth time,” he said.

“A huge thanks to everyone who has played my music over the last year, and over the last 15 years. I really appreciate the continuing support.”

Elsewhere in the rankings, big names including Coldplay, Sir Elton John, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and David Guetta all secured spots in the Top 10, showing just how stacked the competition remains.

Rising star Myles Smith also enjoyed a breakthrough year, landing the most-played song of 2025 with his hit Nice To Meet You, which he admitted still doesn’t feel real.

His follow-up Stargazing also made the Top 10, alongside tracks from Lola Young, Alex Warren and Sam Fender.

The news comes shortly after Ed revealed he has parted ways with Asylum/Warner Music after 15 years

Shape of You hitmaker said the decision was about personal growth and life as a father of two rather than any drama behind the scenes.
