Ella Langley reveals struggle behind 'You Look Like You Love Me'

Ella Langley is opening up about her breakthrough single and how she had to fight her label to record and release it her way.

The songwriter revealed that trusting her instinct with You Look Like You Love Me was the right choice and the reason she believed in it.

In an appearance on the This Past Weekend with Theo Von podcast, the singer stated, “Everyone told me that song was not going to work… “I just fought ‘em really hard on it. They were like, ‘This is going to be the worst-performing song on the record.’”

Ella said that the reason her label was against was because the duet with Riley Green begins with her speaking in the first verse, then singing in the chorus and speaking again as the latter joined in.

The track marked the 26-year-old’s first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, and also went on to win a number of awards.

“I didn’t know what it was gonna do, but I believed that it was different, I believed it was something that made me smile and I enjoyed singing it and like I said, once I put my mind to something, if I go in and cut something, it’s because I believe in it,” Ella told Theo.

Notably, You Look Like You Love Me is featured on the country singer’s debut studio album Hungover, which was released in August of 2024.
