Cillian Murphy revealed how his childhood influences shaped his career.

Murphy, who is currently promoting his return as Tommy Shelby in new film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man revealed the career that he dreamed of before becoming an actor.

In an interview with the ELLE Magazine, when asked about what inspired him to have a career in showbiz.

He said that he wanted to be a musician and that it was his "first love."

The Oscar winner recalled, "[Music] was everywhere when I was growing up. We used to go to an awful lot of traditional Irish music sessions in pubs, where I'd sit there with a Fanta and a straw listening to the people who show up with instruments and play."

He continued, "And then my dad introduced me to the Beatles when I was about four. There were always cassettes in the car."

Previously in an interview with Far Out Magazine, Murphy shared that by age 10 he began writing and performing songs, and when he was 17 he and his brother Páidi (then just 15) began playing in a succession of bands.

When he turned 18, a London-based record label, Acid Jazz Records, offered them a record deal, however, some things about the contract didn’t sit right with him; namely, the fact that "the deal involved selling all our songs and signing up for five years."

He then turned the contract down and within two years the decision was proven to be exceedingly savvy as label went "belly-up."

Murphy first started gaining attention in the early 2000s with his roles in 28 Days Later and Girl with a Pearl Earring. In 2023 he earned his first-ever Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man will be out in theatres this Friday, then streaming on Netflix starting March 20.
