Lily Allen has opened up about the emotional rollercoaster behind her latest record, West End Girl.
The 40-year-old singer admitted that she was “absolutely terrified” about how fans would react.
No Shame singer poured her heartbreak over the end of her marriage to Stranger Things star David Harbour into the album, which dropped last October.
In an interview with ELLE UK, Lily revealed the record is “a really angry album” full of rage directed at others rather than self-reflection.
“When I wrote this album, I spent about eight months being absolutely terrified of what was gonna come back at me,” she said.
But despite her fears, the Smile hitmaker has found a silver lining.
She explained that making the record taught her that anger isn’t something to hide.
The songstress also shared how the album has resonated with women going through similar struggles.
Lily admitted that her Instagram DMs are flooded with shocking stories from fans, some revealing distressing betrayals from their partners.
Through it all, she credited the support of her children’s friends’ parents, who helped her through her “really tough spot” after the split.
Lily’s brutally honest record is clearly hitting a nerve, and fans seem to be right there with her on every raw, angry, and emotional note.
