Stephen Colbert is revealing how it feels to be so close to the deadline of his show ending, after first announcing it in July of last year.
The talk show host’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is set to go off-air, with the last episode set to be released on 21 May, 2026.
In an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the 61-year-old stated, "It feels real now, it did not feel... I mean, I know it was real, but now, there's four months left."
Colbert attempted to play it off in the beginning, even jokingly doing a spit-take before revealing what truly mattered to him about the show.
“The shows are fun to do, but what I really love is the people I do it with. I mean there are people I’ve been working with, my shoemaker Tom Purcell, I’ve known since 1988. And so, we’ve all been together forever. “
The comedian added that the people were what he was going to miss the most, adding that they’ll do something else together but currently the end feels real to him.
Colbert also called being able to discuss current affairs with guests on the show a gift and an experience he will always be grateful for.
The show’s ending has been called a financial decision by CBS executives, and has nothing to do with its performance or content.
