Christopher Nolan has admitted it is “really wonderful” to see his films continue to captivate audiences years after they first hit the big screen, with Interstellar enjoying a remarkable revival more than a decade after its release.

The 55-year-old Oscar-winning filmmaker is currently promoting his highly anticipated epic The Odyssey, but it was his 2014 sci-fi blockbuster that stole part of the spotlight during a recent interview.

Nolan revealed there is no greater compliment than watching younger audiences and aspiring filmmakers discover his earlier work for the first time.

Speaking to The Hindustan Times, the acclaimed director said it was “an amazing thing” when a film continues to have a life long after its original release.

He admitted he has now been making movies for so long that some of the people inspired by his work were either too young to watch his earliest films in cinemas.

He stressed that he never considers a film truly complete until audiences have seen it, insisting cinema-goers ultimately shape a movie’s legacy.

The Oppenheimer star added that countless factors influence how a film is received, from its release strategy to when and where people discover it.

Nolan confessed he has found it especially rewarding to watch Interstellar connect with a fresh generation of film lovers, calling its lasting popularity “really, really gratifying”.

Despite being widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s greatest directors, Nolan also insisted he refuses to let praise go to his head.

He said he stays grounded by remembering what first inspired him to make films, adding that any admiration from fans must remain separate from the creative process.
