Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have co-produced and starred in the upcoming action thriller film The Rip, and the duo made sure that their crew was compensated properly.
The duo of friends, who own the production company, Artists Equity, bargained with the streaming giant Netflix to switch up their payment plan for the film’s crew which was that the workers be rewarded with bonuses if the movie performs well.
“We wanted to institute fairness and address some of the real issues that are present and urgent for our business. This deal is fundamental, philosophically, to the ideas we had in starting this company,” Affleck told the New York Times.
“Everybody who’s in this movie, from top to bottom, or worked on the crew, will be bonused according to metrics which we’ve already defined and they’ve shared with us,” he added.
The partners bargained with Netlfix to change their payment plan, since the company typically awards cast and crew an upfront fee determined in advance.
Affleck also credited the streaming company’s co-chief executive Ted Sarandos for complying and agreeing with Artists Equity’s approach to things.
The Rip is a upcoming crime thriller based on true events.
