The Weeknd’s infamous history with the prestigious award ceremony is being brought up once again, despite the singer indicating that all was well between him and the Recording Academy by performing at this year’s ceremony.
The singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, had called out the committee responsible for granting nominations failed to acknowledge his chart-topping song Blinding Lights and declared that he would not submit his music ever again to the academy.
However, the After Hours hit maker returned to the Grammys in 2025, to perform two tracks off of his sixth studio album Hurry Up Tomorrow.
Since the nominations for the upcoming Grammys awards are out, internet users are wondering why the Save Your Tears singer is not included in the Album of the Year category.
An internet user wrote on X, “The question is, how did the real Album of the Year not even get nominated…” under a post noting that Kendrick Lamar’s GNX has a 27% chance to win in the category.
“Scammys will answer for their crimes,” one netizen wrote as another added, “Grammy's are not serious,” with a crying fans emoji.
Notably, other internet users wrote that the album was simply not good enough to be included in the prestigious category.
Sinead O'Connor is the only artist to ever refuse a Grammy, as a way of boycotting the values of the music industry.
