Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas’ legal war over?

Mariah Carey has been embroiled in a legal case over her holiday classic All I Want For Christmas, and its authenticity.

The Obsessed singer was taken to court by musicians Andy Stone and Troy Powers of Vince Vance & The Valiants, who claimed that the record producer plagiarised their song by the same name.

However, the iconic singer, who has been dubbed the ‘songbird supreme’ did not back down, and went on with the legal proceedings.

The decision turned out to be in Mariah’s favour, as the judge presiding over the case dismissed the suit and also ordered the plaintiffs to pay the singer a hefty sum.

As per court documents obtained by TMZ, the five-time Grammy winner was awarded $92,303.20 in sanctions, along with some other costs, which only caused an increase in the already weighty amount.

Reportedly, the judge believed that the case 'lacked merit' and 'determined there was good reason to deter people from filing baseless lawsuits,' which is why the sanctions were paid to Mariah.

Notably, Andy and Troy had claimed that their song had substantial similarities, in terms of lyrics and melody to the 1994 Christmas classic but have ultimately been proven wrong.
