Meghan Markle has made a quiet but notable appearance at King Charles’ London residence, without ever stepping foot inside.
This week, two framed photographs of the Duchess of Sussex were spotted on display at Clarence House, the King and Queen Camilla’s official London home, despite ongoing speculation about tensions within the Royal Family.
The images were visible during Queen Camilla’s annual Christmas tree decorating event, which was hosted at Clarence House on Thursday for children supported by Helen and Douglas House and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.
Photographs taken during the festive event captured the interiors of the historic residence, and royal watchers were quick to spot two familiar images displayed on a side table.
One photograph shows Meghan walking down the aisle with King Charles on her wedding day to Prince Harry in 2018, a moment that symbolised the monarch’s support for his future daughter-in-law after her father was unable to attend the ceremony.
The second image depicts Meghan and Harry alongside the wider Royal Family at Prince Louis’ christening. King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Kate, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and baby Prince Louis can all be seen smiling in the family portrait.
Both photographs date back to the years before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from royal duties in 2020, a decision that reportedly contributed to strained relationships within the family.
Nevertheless, the presence of Meghan’s photographs in the King’s private home has been viewed by some as a quietly significant gesture, particularly amid persistent rumours that the Duchess is not on good terms with several senior royals.
Meghan, who has spoken openly about her dislike of royal life, has not returned to the UK since attending Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022.
While Prince Harry has made several solo trips back to Britain, Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, have not accompanied him.
