Why King Charles wanted Meghan Markle to patch things up with her father

King Charles reportedly pushed Meghan Markle to repair her relationship with her estranged father Thomas Markle, long before the Sussex exit and their move to California.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, the then-Prince of Wales urged Meghan and Harry to visit Thomas in Mexico following a string of embarrassing interviews he gave to the press, including one where he threatened to “unload” on the Royal Family.

Palace insiders claim Charles even “berated” the couple for failing to intervene as the situation spiraled.

Meghan, who once described her dad as “thoughtful, inspiring, hardworking,” cut ties with him in 2018 after he staged paparazzi photos and later pulled out of her wedding due to reported heart issues.

Thomas has not seen Meghan since, nor met Harry or his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.

With Thomas absent, Charles famously stepped in to walk Meghan down the aisle at St George’s Chapel.

She later revealed in her Netflix docuseries that she felt she had “lost” her father during the chaos, explaining: “I asked him to walk me down the aisle and he said yes… it meant a lot.”

“Harry's dad is very charming. And I said to him, like, 'I've lost my dad in this.' So him, as my father-in-law, was really important to me.”
