Why King Charles would support Meghan Markles viral Instagram post

A former royal butler who worked closely with King Charles has revealed how the monarch would likely view Meghan Markle’s Veterans Day post, and it’s far more positive than many might expect.

Grant Harrold, who served Charles from 2007 to 2011, says the King would approve of Meghan’s tribute, which featured touching footage of Prince Harry in military uniform alongside the message: “Once served. Always serving.”

Speaking to ReachPlc, Harrold praised the Duchess of Sussex’s decision to honour veterans, especially given Harry’s decade of military service and two tours in Afghanistan.

“It’s a very powerful, emotive video,” Harrold said.

“I don’t think the Royal Family will feel badly about it at all. They will approve. The King was extremely proud of his son serving in Afghanistan, and he will be glad Meghan acknowledged and respected this.”

Meghan’s post came as Harry released his own Remembrance essay, reflecting on the sacrifices of service members and reaffirming his bond with Britain despite living in the US.

“Though currently I may live in the United States, Britain is, and always will be, the country I proudly served,” Harry wrote.

The Duke of Sussex, now 41, served from 2005–2015, rising to the rank of captain and founding the Invictus Games, which is a global platform supporting wounded and injured veterans.
