Margot Robbie invites more backlash for defending Jacob Elordi’s Heathcliff

Margot Robbie is giving insights into the upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation, which features Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.

The Barbie star is set to play Heathcliff’s love interest, Catherine Earnshaw, in the Emerald Fennel directed film, which has sparked a lot of backlash ahead of its release.

In an interview with British Vogue, the 35-year-old stated of the Frankenstein star, “I saw him play Heathcliff, and he is Heathcliff. I’d say, just wait. Trust me, you’ll be happy.”

“It’s a character that has this lineage of other great actors who’ve played him…to be a part of that is special. He’s incredible and I believe in him so much. I honestly think he’s our generation’s Daniel Day-Lewis,” Margot added of Jacob.

The Suicide Squad actress’s remarks fail to acknowledge the key problem with the Euphoria actor playing Heathcliff, which is that the character is explicitly described as a “dark skinned” man in Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel.

Meanwhile, the Saltburn director has defended her casting decisions and even said that watching Jacob in the film inspired her to come out with the Wuthering Heights adaptation.
