Jennifer Lopez breaks down in tears while accepting major honour

Jennifer Lopez got emotional as she reflected on what it meant to receive the Equity in Entertainment Award, diving deeper into the representation of people of colour in the industry.

The multi-hyphenate icon receieved the honour from Kerry Washington, and immediately teared up as she began her acceptance speech.

A choked up Jennifer began with a shaky voice saying, “I am so humbled to be in the presence of all of you, thank you so much, I just was like I should’ve spent more time on my speech. I’ve been so busy,” which elicited laughter from the audience.

The Selena star thanked The Hollywood Reporter for hosting the event, going on to add how she often felt like the underdog in the industry, and was boxed into stereotypes that undermined her talent.

Jennifer credited stars like Chita Rivera, Rita Moreno, Dolores Del Rio, Katie Huvado, for paving the way for Latina representation in mainstream media.

“Yet, decades later, there was still resistance to a Latina leading a studio movie and having to work so incredibly hard to prove that we can carry romantic comedies and thrillers and command stage, “adding that she hoped that each major role meant an increase in representation.

Notably, the 56-year-old has been honoured with the award for the second time, with the first being in 2023.
