Kate Middleton smoothly avoids curtsey blunder with Queen Camilla

Kate Middleton delivered a flawless recovery during a slightly awkward royal moment as she and Prince William helped welcome Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender to the UK for their state visit.

After greeting the couple at Heathrow, William and Kate accompanied them to Windsor Castle, where King Charles and Queen Camilla were waiting with the full ceremonial welcome.

As the group stepped onto the dais in the Quadrangle, the President and First Lady moved ahead to greet Their Majesties.

Standing off to the side, Princess Kate dropped into a deep, respectful curtsey, but Queen Camilla didn’t see it, as she was mid-conversation with the First Lady.

With her usual poise, Kate waited a beat, caught Camilla’s eye, and offered a second elegant curtsey.

This time Camilla responded warmly, smiling and blowing her daughter-in-law a sweet kiss, turning an almost-blunder into a charming moment between the two women.

Looking polished in a structured Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen coat, Princess Kate appeared delighted to reunite with the King and Queen for one of the most high-profile state occasions of the year.

Just like during President Trump’s UK trip in September, William and Kate were the designated royal escorts for the visiting dignitaries, accompanying them from the moment they stepped off the plane to the formal welcome ceremony at Windsor.

King Charles later joined President Steinmeier to inspect the Guard before hosting a private lunch inside the Castle.
