Stranger Things premiered its first volume of finale on November 26, trending everywhere on the internet and streaming platform alike.
Although only four episodes premiered on Netflix, fans rushed to stream the new additions as soon as it was released.
The series officially announced it has topped chart globally, sharing clips from the show and captioning it: “The world has flipped upside down. STRANGER THINGS 5 is the #1 IN THE WORLD!”
It was reported that the series made history with record-breaking 59.6 million views within five days of release, which is now “the biggest premiere for any English-language show in Netflix’s history.”
However, Stranger Things is now competing with the second and third seasons of Squid Game as it ranks third biggest debut overall.
After the release of season 5, the previous instalment saw a surge in the streams which debuted with 287 million hours watches in 2022.
According to Variety, the new part scored whooping 171% increase in terms of views.
It is to be noted that before the much-anticipated season of sci-fi, all parts of the show made their way to the top 10 chart of the platform.
One of the creators, Ross Duffer, admitted that Netflix “increased bandwidth by 30%” but failed to avoid the crash of the app.
