Kate Middleton says she is forced to keep huge secret from George, Charlotte, Louis

Kate Middleton delighted guests at the Royal Variety Show but admitted she would have to hide one major detail from her children, because they would be “very sad” to miss out.

Speaking with nine-year-old twins Emelia and Olivia Edwards at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Princess of Wales revealed that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis were huge Paddington fans and would be disappointed to learn they missed a live musical performance.

Dressed in a striking emerald green gown and wearing her signature soft curls, Catherine greeted the young sisters, who presented her with a winter-woodland themed floral bouquet handpicked from Brinsworth House, where their family member works.

After bending down to chat with them, the princess smiled warmly and said the flowers were “very sweet” before asking if they were excited to tell their school friends about their special evening.

When the girls confirmed they were, Kate asked: “Are you two fans of Paddington?”

After they nodded, she confessed: “My kiddies will be very sad [to have missed the show], we are going to have to keep it a big secret”, placing a finger to her lips, before adding: "They were very sad not to be joining us."

Wearing a classic black velvet tuxedo and bow tie, the Prince of Wales chatted with the twins, taking their programmes and asking what they most looked forward to during the performance.

When the royal couple entered the royal box, state trumpeters played and the entire audience rose to its feet as Katherine Jenkins delivered the national anthem.
