Prince Harry has faced a fresh wave of online trolling after a leading Hollywood journalist and former magazine editor branded him “not the brightest bulb”, while also accusing Meghan Markle of repeatedly making disastrous career moves.
Tina Brown, former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and Tatler, and biographer of Princess Diana, delivered a scathing assessment of the Sussexes’ standing in the US, claiming they have become social outcasts after a string of misjudgments.
The couple’s most recent backlash erupted when they were photographed at Kris Jenner’s glamorous 70th birthday party in Los Angeles last weekend.
The Kardashians uploaded images showing Harry and Meghan enjoying the festivities while the Royal Family marked Remembrance, photos that were swiftly deleted, triggering even more speculation and criticism.
Speaking to The New York Times, Brown did not hold back. She said: “I have never seen anybody in professional life make as many mistakes as Meghan has. And unfortunately, Harry is not the brightest bulb."
“'He [Prince Harry] thought that Meghan would be his guide in the big wide world beyond Buckingham Palace, and it turns out that Meghan makes one terrible professional decision after another.”
“And now they are sort of pariahs everywhere, it seems, which is a very difficult situation for them because America was supposed to be the place which paid the bills.”
