Kate Winslet recalls awkward encounter with King Charles
The actress met the king when she was 20
British actress Kate Winslet recalled her first meeting with King Charles in a recent interview.
The Titanic star was 20 when she met then-Prince of Wales, Charles.
The meeting happened at the royal premier of Kate’s 1995 movie Sense and Sensibility.
Speaking on the Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kate recalled her awkward situation.
“The first time I met him. Oh my goodness. He had come to support the royal premiere of Sense and Sensibility when I was 20”, she said.
Kate revealed she did not know she was about to meet the future king so she was not dressed according to the royal protocol.
“I forgot about the fact that I really was wearing a kind of transparent lace outfit,”, she revealed.
The actress said she was fortunately wearing a coat which she used to cover herself up.
The 50-year-old has had a good relationship with the King. She now serves as the ambassador for The King’s Foundation, Charles’ educational charity.
She is often seen praising the king saying “He's very, very kind and extremely empathetic and very, very generous”.
Kate was last photographed with the British monarch in June 2024 during the King's Foundation Awards ceremony at St James's Palace.
