Meghan Markle is facing fresh criticism from a royal commentator, who claims the Duchess of Sussex is increasingly “disconnected from reality” as she throws herself into a wave of new Hollywood projects.
The 44-year-old former working royal has spent the year rolling out a series of ventures, including her Netflix lifestyle show With Love, Meghan, her brand As Ever, and her new podcast Confessions of a Female Founder.
She also recently made headlines for returning to acting after being spotted on set for the Amazon MGM film Close Personal Friends, where she will appear as herself.
Despite the high volume of launches and media buzz surrounding her projects, one commentator argues that much of Meghan’s positive coverage is generated through curated PR moments rather than organic success.
NewsNation’s Paula Froelich criticised the duchess’s approach, saying her efforts appear geared towards creating splashy narratives rather than demonstrating real business achievement.
Froelich told Kinsey Schofield’s programme: “Nobody has said that she is a great business person; there’s just a disconnect, really. Between what’s going on and that cavernous mansion in Montecito.”
The duchess’s various ventures have regularly prompted strong reactions online.
Critics argue that Meghan’s latest moves reflect an attempt to secure a strong foothold in Hollywood following the mixed reception of some earlier projects.
Her next major release will be a Christmas special of her Netflix series, set to arrive on December 3.
